|Park Name and Amenities
The newest park in the Atoka park system was established in 2008 and is named in honor of long-time Atoka Mayor and dedicated community supporter Charles Walker. Walker Park is a hub of recreational activity throughout the year located in the heart of Atoka's residential community. With new amenities including an expanded restroom facility, splash pad and volleyball courts added in 2013, Walker Park has become a great place for residents of all ages to relax, cool off and enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle.
At more than 60 acres, Walker Park is the largest park in Atoka and offers a host of recreational offerings in a fantastic setting within walking distance to much of Atoka's residential community. Walker Park features a paved walking trail, a super cool 5,000 square foot splash pad, a lighted athletic field for soccer and football and the only sand volley ball courts in south Tipton County.
Walker Park Master Plan
Adopted in 2012, the Walker Park Master Plan is a long-range plan for growing and improving Walker Park. The Master Plan calls for additional parking, new multi-use athletic fields, community garden space, a 30,000 square foot dog park and expanded playground offerings. Additionally, Walker Park is the western terminus of the planned Atoka Greenway Trail - a paved walking trail connecting Walker Park to Pioneer Park and creating a 2.25 mile loop of paved walking trails between the greenway at its two anchor parks.
Annual Events at Walker Park Rock the Block is the Town's annual Independence Day celebration in the heart of residential Atoka. The event, born in 2013 as a grand opening celebration for improvements to the park, was so well received that it became an annual community celebration. In partnership with Gateway Baptist Church, Rock the Block offers family fun, free food and activities, live music and a fireworks display.
